The Transportation Driver plays a vital role within Primavera's Transportation Services Program, ensuring safe and reliable transit for participants across Pima and neighboring counties. Through multiple daily trips to diverse locations, transporting up to 10 individuals at a time, the Passenger Driver is crucial in fostering a positive and supportive transportation experience for individuals and families addressing various life challenges, including those experiencing homelessness. Drivers will also work with Resource Specialists in the Outreach Services program to provide services at camps where people experiencing homelessness congregate.
In addition to safe transportation, responsibilities include routine cleaning of the vehicle and regular checks of fluids to ensure it is safe and reliable for operation. This position requires adaptability to varying routes and schedules, as well as partnering with staff at outreach camps, and a commitment to ensuring the well-being and comfort of passengers throughout their journeys.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by leadership):
- Safely transport 1-10 individual(s) to and from designated locations following established routes
- Adapt to changing daily itineraries and routes based on passenger needs and scheduling requirements.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers throughout the journey, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Assist Resource Specialists with providing services at camps where people experiencing homelessness congregate.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, providing courteous and helpful service.
- Maintain a clean van interior and exterior.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections and report issues promptly.
- Communicate effectively with passengers to provide route information, answer questions, and address concerns.
- Keep accurate records of daily activities, including mileage, passenger counts, and any incidents or deviations from the planned route.
- Service Pima and neighboring counties.
- Uphold a professional and customer-focused demeanor, ensuring a positive and comfortable experience for passengers.
- Adherence to and demonstration of Primavera’s guiding principles of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Familiarity with the streets and routes in Tucson and surrounding cities.
- Understanding and adherence to traffic laws and safety regulations
- Problem-solving skills to address unexpected situations efficiently.
- Basic understanding and ability to perform routine vehicle cleaning and fluid checks.
- Capacity to maintain a calm and professional demeanor, especially in challenging situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have held a valid driver's license for the last five years.
- Must possess valid proof of insurance and be an insurable driver through Primavera.
- Ability to work evenings.
- Must be eligible for insurance under Primavera insurance requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 1 year of previous transportation experience
- At least 1 year of experience working with low-income and/or homeless individuals.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
- This position involves spending extended periods driving a passenger van in various weather conditions.
- Some tasks may involve assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking.
- Will be required to perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as cleaning, kneeling, bending at the waist, and conducting fluid checks. In various weather conditions.
