The Role (What You’ll Do & Why It Matters)
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you are responsible for the safe, efficient, and precise operation of excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and other heavy machinery. You will support remediation, reclamation, civil earthworks, and site preparation activities with discipline, attention to detail, and a strong safety mindset. Your work directly influences production efficiency, environmental compliance, and the quality of restored landforms.

Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Production
- Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and related equipment for site preparation, excavation, remediation, and reclamation.
- Meet daily production expectations while maintaining accuracy, environmental controls, and safe work practices.
- Prepare and load soil piles; manage material placement and flow efficiently.
- Interpret grade stakes, drawings, and off-site survey data to achieve accurate site grading and restoration.
Environmental Remediation & Reclamation Execution
- Segregate soils with minimal mixing to maintain environmental compliance.
- Execute remediation excavation while preventing cross-contamination of impacted materials.
- Perform reclamation work to restore natural contours, drainage patterns, and site stability.
- Apply proper sloping, stepping, and excavation techniques to maintain safe excavation faces and material separation.
Safety, Hazard Identification & Compliance
- Participate in all safety programs, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
- Identify and control hazards in dynamic field environments.
- Follow safe work procedures for equipment operation, excavation, slopes, and soft ground conditions.
- Promote public safety and adhere to all regulatory and client-specific safety requirements.
Equipment Care, Inspections & Reporting
- Perform thorough pre-operational inspections and complete start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Monitor gauges, fluid levels, and equipment performance throughout operations.
- Clean and maintain equipment as scheduled or required.
- Report mechanical issues, deficiencies, or required repairs promptly to the General Superintendent or designated supervisor.
Professionalism, Teamwork & Communication
- Work independently with minimal supervision, while proactively seeking clarification when required.
- Maintain strong interpersonal communication and cooperate with crew members and leadership.
- Represent Sublatus professionally with clients, subcontractors, and the public.
- Adapt to changing work conditions and support additional tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5,000+ hours of heavy equipment operating experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize abnormal equipment performance.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures and maintain disciplined operation of equipment and systems.

- CSTS
- Standard First Aid with CPR/AED
Pre-Employment Requirements
Due to the safety-sensitive nature of Sublatus projects, all employees must maintain the following:
- Clean criminal record check.
- Negative alcohol and drug test.
- Fitness-for-duty testing (50 lb capability).
- Clean driver’s abstract.
- Consent to participate in all required testing and monitoring programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental remediation and reclamation (soil handling, restoration grading).
- Experience on demolition, decommissioning, mining, oil & gas, or industrial sites.
- Ability to anticipate hazards and adapt to changing field conditions.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, hourly position.
- Travel required across Western Canada.
- Extended hours and weekend work based on project needs.
- Safety-sensitive role with ongoing testing and compliance requirements.
