Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Mount Pearl, NL office.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop printed circuit boards (PCBs) for electronic systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Conducting circuit simulations using software tools to analyze and optimize circuit performance, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Designing wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for electrical systems, considering factors such as signal integrity, thermal management, and EMC/EMI compliance.
  • Developing system architectures and integrating electrical components into larger systems, considering overall functionality, performance, and safety requirements.
  • Leading electrical engineering projects from concept to completion. Support the project management office in developing work breakdown structures.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, CAD drafters, and product designers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other components.
  • Direct activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Developing test plans and procedures, conducting testing, and performing validation to ensure the reliability and performance of electrical systems.
  • Establish design criteria for projects using required codes and standards.
  • Participate in the design review process.
  • Review and approval of engineering deliverables.
  • Work with the Production department to provide technical assistance during the manufacturing process.
  • Work with customers to understand project requirements and provide operational support while in the field.
  • Mentor Electrical Engineers and Technologists.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent engineering discipline with 8+ years experience.
  • Excellent design standards and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Effectively focus on high level project objectives while executing detailed design tasks.
  • Incredible attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated technical skills along with a proven track record for success.
  • Experience in the design specification, installation and connection methods of electrical equipment.
  • Experience in the design and review of PCB Fab drawings, PCB Assembly drawings.
  • Experience in troubleshooting issues such as noise, distortion, cross-talk, and grounding.
  • Experience with mixed analog/digital design:
    • Linear DC supplies and switched mode power supply
    • Anolog to digital conversion, digital to analog conversion
    • Microcontrollers, digital signal processing.
  • Experience with high voltages.
  • Experience with ABB motors and drives.
  • Experience with embedded controllers.
  • Experience using lab testing equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills (technical reporting).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team environment.
  • High degree of organization, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Experience with sensors/telemetry considered an asset.
  • Marine technology experience considered an asset.
