Fairfax Neonatal Associates is seeking a full-time Newborn Hospitalist to join our private practice group. Our team collaborates with award-winning community hospitals in Northern Virginia, which includes Inova Fairfax, Inova Fair Oaks, Inova Alexandria and Inova Loudoun Hospitals. 

Applicants must be Board Certified (BC)/Board Eligible (BE) and CPR/PALS/NRP certified.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducts daily hospital rounds on all assigned newborn nursery patients.
  • Provide direct care to newborn nursery patients to include diagnosis and treatment as necessary.
  • Understands and follows performance standards for hospital providers.
  • Work closely with hospital team to include Physicians, PA’s, NP’s and Nurses to maximize efficiency and coordinates medical care across service lines to ensure alignment of resources.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other Inpatient and Outpatient physicians.
  • Works closely with Obstetricians and in-house Neonatologists

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional pediatric medical principles, procedures, and techniques as appropriate.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • Ability to effectively manage and direct medical staff and support activities while providing quality medical care.
  • Ability to receive detailed information and exchange ideas verbally.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and develop positive interactions with patients, families, physicians, agencies, and staff regarding patient care.
  • Ability to develop meaningful and impactful doctor/ patient/ caregiver relationships exhibiting compassionate bedside manner.
  • Ability to use Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for documentation and gathering of information and history on mothers and babies. 

Education & Experience

  • MD or DO degree 
  • Successful completion of ACGME (American College of Medical Education) approved pediatric residency (3 years).
  • Valid and unrestricted Virginia Board of Medicine medical license.
  •  Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Valid DEA and CDS licenses 

Physical Requirements

  • Visual/ hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/ verbal communication.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include lifting of supplies, patients, and possibly equipment.
  • Extensive bending, standing, walking or sitting may be required.
