This position supports mission-critical heating, steam and sterilization systems and requires a high level of technical expertise, professionalism, and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and service burners on steam and hot water boilers, including gas, oil, and dual-fuel systems.
  • Perform combustion tuning and emissions testing using flue gas analyzers; adjust air-fuel ratios to meet efficiency and compliance standards.
  • Commission newly installed boilers and burners, ensuring system integration and control compatibility.
  • Diagnose burner ignition problems, flame failure issues, and control faults using multimeters, analyzers, and interface software.
  • Install, wire, and program burner management systems (BMS) and flame safeguard controls such as Fireye, Honeywell, Siemens, and Autoflame.
  • Replace burner components including nozzles, igniters, electrodes, gas valves, linkages, mod motors, actuators, and blowers.
  • Read, interpret, and modify electrical wiring diagrams, combustion schematics, and gas piping layouts.
  • Interface burner control systems with PLCs, VFDs, BAS/BMS, and SCADA platforms.
  • Ensure all burner installations and repairs meet NFPA 85, ASME CSD-1, and local code requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior technicians on-site for burner installations and routine maintenance.
  • Maintain clear and accurate service records, tuning logs, and compliance reports.

Core Responsibilities:

Boiler Systems (Installation & Service):

  • Install, repair, and commission steam and hot water boilers, including firetube, water tube, and modular units.
  • Perform hydrostatic tests, refractory repair, gasket sealing, and vessel cleaning.
  • Conduct routine and emergency service calls involving pressure vessels, valves, feedwater systems, and controls.
  • Perform annual boiler inspections and PMs in line with ASME and local code compliance.
  • Interpret P&IDs, pressure control diagrams, and mechanical blueprints.
  • Integrate boiler systems with building automation, feedwater systems, and economizers.

Burner Systems (Installation & Service):

  • Install and set up gas, oil, and dual-fuel burners; align fuel trains, flue ducts, and draft systems.
  • Calibrate and tune burners to maximize efficiency and meet emissions standards using combustion analyzers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair ignition failures, flame signal loss, and fuel-air modulation issues.
  • Install and wire burner management systems (BMS) including Fireye, Honeywell, Siemens, Autoflame, and Limpsfield.
  • Replace burner components such as gas valves, actuators, linkages, mod motors, blowers, igniters, and sensors.
  • Integrate burners with PLCs, VFDs, BAS, and safety interlock circuits

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate documentation of service work, including job reports, tuning sheets, and time logs.
  • Maintain a clean, professional work environment at all times—on-site and in vehicles.
  • Follow all applicable safety policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, NFPA, ASME, local code).
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training classes and courses.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational training in mechanical or electrical fields preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on field experience with boiler and burner systems.
  • Proven expertise in burner installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair (gas, oil, and dual-fuel).
  • Solid understanding of air/fuel ratio principles and combustion system dynamics.
  • Strong electrical skills including wiring, diagnostics, and familiarity with control voltages (24V to 480V).
  • Experience with flame safeguard systems (Fireye, Honeywell, Siemens, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ASME, NEC, NFPA 70/85, and applicable local/state boiler codes.
  • Clean and valid driver’s license; ability to travel to job sites and work overtime or on-call as needed.
  • Background checks and drug screening required upon hire as well as periodic screening.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in confined spaces, on ladders, rooftops, and in mechanical rooms.
  • Tolerance for heat, noise, and industrial working conditions.
  • Must be able to pass safety training including confined space, fall protection, and lockout/tagout procedures.
