About this position

The incumbent is responsible for the litigation of personal injury matters from initiation of suit through trial. The position requires the exercise of professional legal judgment in the preparation, management, and resolution of cases, including but not limited to the drafting of legal documents, conducting discovery, advocating in court, and maintaining effective communication with clients, opposing counsel, and internal staff.

Description of Duties and Time Allocation

  1. Preparation of Legal Documents 
     Drafts, revises, and finalizes motions, oppositions, replies, mediation submissions, and trial briefs. Ensures that all filings comply with applicable procedural and substantive requirements.
  2. Professional Communications 
    Engages in written and oral communications with:
    • Opposing counsel regarding settlement negotiations, mediation, discovery matters, and meet-and-confer obligations.
    • Clients, for the purpose of providing case status, requesting information, and preparing for proceedings.
    • Supervising and collaborating attorneys and staff for case strategy and task coordination.
    • Communicates, collaborates, and engages effectively with all members of the firm to support alignment with the company’s mission and vision and ensure unity of direction across all matters.
  3. Appearances 
     Represents clients at hearings, depositions, mediations, and site inspections. Provides oral argument and advocacy consistent with client interests and case objectives.
  4. Discovery 
     Drafts and responds to discovery, including interrogatories, requests for admission, and document requests. Reviews, analyzes, and addresses discovery received from opposing parties.
  5. Deposition Preparation and Examination 
     Prepares clients for deposition testimony. Conducts and defends depositions of defendants and witnesses, ensuring the accurate preservation of testimony for use at trial.
  6. Legal Research 
     Conducts comprehensive legal research in support of motions, discovery responses, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation. Applies statutory and case law to strengthen litigation strategy and written advocacy.

Complexity and Highest Degree of Skill Required

The position requires advanced skill in drafting persuasive briefs, conducting oral argument before the court, preparing clients for sworn testimony, and conducting or defending depositions. These tasks require superior analytical reasoning, strategic advocacy, and comprehensive knowledge of law and procedure.

Licensure, Education, and Certification Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the State of California.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of California law and civil procedure.
  • Strong oral and written advocacy skills.

  • Assist trial attorney with depositions of experts, drafting and arguing motions in limine and participating in trial if requested by senior trial counsel.
