Description:
  •  Receives instructions from physicians regarding recommended procedures.
  • Ensure precertification/preauthorization is obtained from the insurance carrier via phone before surgery and tests.
  • Verifies and documents eligibility/coverage for the requested procedure.
  • Counsels patients pre-operatively regarding insurance coverage and alerts patients of any potential financial obligations.
  • Educates patient on physician-directed preoperative requirements, such as medical clearances and diagnostic testing.
  • Coordinates and schedules approved procedures with the requested facility.
  • Notifies primary care physicians of proposed procedure and preoperative requirements.
  • Confirms scheduled cases with surgical facilities and relinquishes block time to maximize OR utilization.
  • Eliminates gaps in the surgery schedule by ensuring patient compliance with preoperative requirements and alerting the physician of any cancellations to allow the physician to determine scheduling preference (i.e., additional surgery time vs. clinic time)
  •  Schedules appointments when needed to help out the department.
  • Covers for PBX operator when needed.
  • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patients and carriers regarding planned surgeries.
  • Maintains communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software related to job functions.
  • Attends continuing education courses as requested.
  • Attends all regular staff meetings.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by the Manager or Team Leader/Supervisor 
Requirements:
  • Minimum of eighteen months of experience working in a physician group practice.
  • Proficiency in computer automation, with emphasis on email/internet applications.
  • Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
  • Ability to multitask and perform in a high-stress/fast-paced work environment
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance and possess a cheerful disposition
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of medical terminology preferred
