JOB SUMMARY
Pharmacists overseeing non-sterile compounding are responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate preparation of customized medications, including creams, ointments, oral solid dosage forms, and suppositories. This involves supervising pharmacy technicians, maintaining a compliant compounding environment, adhering to USP 795 standards, and implementing quality control procedures. They also ensure proper equipment maintenance, accurate labeling, and appropriate beyond-use dating.
DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
- Oversee pharmacy technicians involved in non-sterile compounding, ensuring they follow proper procedures and maintain quality standards.
- Ensure that all compounding activities adhere to USP 795 guidelines and other relevant regulations.
- Develop, review, and update SOPs for non-sterile compounding processes to ensure consistent and safe practices.
- Responsible for ensuring that all necessary equipment is available, properly maintained, and calibrated.
- Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and safety of compounded medications.
- Conduct final checks and verifications to ensure the accuracy of the compounded product before dispensing.
- Maintain accurate records of all compounding activities, including ingredients, lot numbers, and beyond-use dates.
- Ensure that all personnel involved in non-sterile compounding have the necessary education, training, and proficiency.
- Stay up-to-date on best practices and regulatory changes related to non-sterile compounding through continuing education.
- May be involved in the compounding of hazardous drugs, ensuring appropriate precautions and handling procedures are followed.
- Ensure that the compounding area is properly maintained to minimize the risk of contamination and maintain a clean environment.
- Address any questions or concerns that arise from technicians or other pharmacy staff regarding compounding processes.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient in utilizing the PK system to support efficient production operations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information across all levels.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, ensuring smooth coordination of multiple tasks and priorities.
- Skilled in multitasking and effectively managing shifting daily demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of production and documentation.
- Maintains discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information; exercises sound judgment in decision-making.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Florida, with a strong foundation in pharmaceutical compounding and regulatory compliance.
- Completed LP3 Network Non-Sterile Compounding Training (or equivalent accredited program), with hands-on application of compounding best practices.
- Demonstrated experience in non-sterile compounding, including formulation, quality control, and process optimization in a regulated environment.
- In-depth knowledge and practical application of USP 795 guidelines, ensuring compliance with current standards for non-sterile preparation and documentation.
