About this position
The Water Systems Technician is responsible for supporting facility water management activities through routine sampling, system flushing, and documentation throughout the Johns Hopkins University campus. This role is primarily field-based and involves extensive walking across multiple buildings while following established water safety and compliance procedures.
This position focuses on execution of routine tasks rather than program design or advanced water safety management.
Expectations
Perform routine water sampling across facility locations in accordance with established procedures
Conduct scheduled flushing of domestic water systems and outlets
Travel throughout campus buildings daily to complete assigned routes and tasks
Accurately label, document, and prepare water samples for testing and analysis
Maintain detailed records using digital or paper reporting tools
Follow site safety requirements and infection prevention protocols
Communicate completion of daily activities to supervisors and project managers
Assist with basic inspections of fixtures and water outlets as directed
Maintain organization of sampling equipment and supplies
Water Safety:
Conduct water testing, sampling, and remediation activities to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Aid in remediation efforts across the organization, as needed.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Reliable attendance and ability to work independently
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Comfortable following structured procedures and schedules
Preferred (Not Required):
Experience in facilities, maintenance, environmental services, healthcare, or water systems
Experience with sampling or compliance-based field work
Compensation & Classification
Hourly, non-exempt position
Overtime eligible in accordance with applicable laws

Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role within an active university and healthcare environment. The technician will interact with staff and occupants while maintaining professionalism and adherence to safety protocols. This job requires an extensive amount of prolonged walking, and standing.
