Mission of Council

The Nursing Advisory Council works collaboratively with Nursing and Human Resources to promote East Alabama Health as the Nursing employer of choice with focus on patient safety and quality, recruitment, retention, recognition and compensation practices.

Qualifications:  Registered Nurse at EAH in direct inpatient, outpatient, and senior care services.

Group Make Up: Representation from all nursing areas to include critical care, step down, med surg, procedural, women’s services, emergency services, outpatient, and long-term care.   Representation from all length of services sought. 

 Expectations:

  • Serve a 2-year term, attending at least 80% of council meetings. 
  • Attend monthly nursing council meetings
  • Participate in the selection of annual Daisy Award recipients
  • May be asked to chair and participate in subcommittees.
  • Must attend 1 recruiting event each year of the 2-year commitment.  
  • Serve as a coach, mentor, or preceptor annually.
  • Coordinate a PI project in your department
  • May be asked to serve on the mobile bus

Compensation: Eligible to receive a total of $10,000 at the completion of 2-year term for successfully completing all expectations.  Installments will be paid quarterly in $1250 increments.  Eligibility depends on being in good status with no disciplinary actions.

Additional Expectations:

  • I understand that my manager or director is supportive of this program, and that I will not be scheduled to work the night before, the day of, or the night after any of the aforementioned dates.
  • I understand that this is a 2-year term and am required to attend all council meetings.
  • I understand that I will be paid my normal hourly pay (if applicable) when I attend any Nursing Advisory Council Meetings. 
  • I understand that all Nursing Advisory Council communications will be sent to my work e-mail and I am expected to routinely check my work e-mail account.
  • I understand that I am required to attend at least 1 recruiting or employee engagement event each year of my 2-year commitment.   Recruiting events will be communicated via email from the nursing recruiter at ryan.dutton@eamc.org .    
  • I understand that I am expected to serve as a coach, Mentor (apprenticeship) or preceptor annually for my area.  
  • I understand that I am expected to actively participate in the selection of the annual Daisy Award recipients by submitting at least 1 nomination for consideration.  
  • I understand that I am expected to participate in the nurse residency program as a mentor for new graduate nurses to include attendance to scheduled meetings and periodic follow up and mentorship activities with nurse residents.
  • I understand that I am expected to participate in unit/department performance improvement projects to include our upcoming Cerner Optimization team, Skills Day booth education or other relevant PI initiative.   This participation will be validated by my department manager and any PI initiatives must be approved by NAC clinical leadership prior to the start of the project.
  • I understand that I will be expected to serve on the Mobile Bus 1 time each year of my 2-year commitment.   Mobile Bus availability will be communicated from Sutricia Johnson, EAH’s Director of Health Equity.  
  • I understand that I am expected to be “engaged” during these meetings, meaning I should be fully involved in the conversations.  Since I am being paid to attend these meetings, I understand these meetings to be work-like (not a vacation day).  I understand that any missed meetings without proper notification will be treated as a No Call No Show per HR policy.  
  • I understand that if I meet all the expectations of this document, am currently employed, and remain in good status with no disciplinary actions that I am eligible to receive a total of $10,000 at the end of the 2-year term.    Payments will be paid out quarterly in $1250 increments if you are in attendance at the previous meeting and compliant with other requirements of the program.
