About this position
Description:
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all shipping, receiving, and material handling operations to ensure efficient material flow, accurate inventory control, and on-time delivery of products. This role provides direct leadership to Material Handlers and coordinates closely with production, quality, purchasing, and logistics teams to support lean manufacturing objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and mentor Material Handlers and shipping personnel.
- Prioritize workload to support production schedules and customer shipments.
- Oversee receiving, inspection, storage, and distribution of raw materials, components, and finished goods.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of outgoing shipments.
- Verify shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing slips, and carrier compliance.
- Coordinate freight scheduling and communicate with carriers and logistics providers.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts and physical inventories.
- Maintain warehouse organization and cleanliness.
- Oversee accurate documentation of material movements, receipts, transfers, and shipments.
- 3–5 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or material handling operations in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (5S, Kanban, JIT).
- Experience with inventory management systems/ERP software.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification).
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, ERP systems).
- Physical ability to lift and move materials as required.
