The NWS provides continuous aerospace surveillance to detect airborne threats in the northern region.

Nature and Scope:

Reporting to the NWSCC Operations Supervisor, the Electronics Maintenance Technician (EMT) / Trainer is responsible for providing technical support and training on Communications & Electronics systems.

This position is covered under the provision of the collective agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local 2228.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  • Assists in the maintenance of North Warning System (NWS) Communications & Electronics systems, including but not limited to, data/voice communications, multiplexers, satellite/Radio Frequency (RF) communications, AN/FPS-124 Radar, AN/FPS-117 Radar, router-based IP networks, helicopter monitor, and SCADA systems.
  • Provides technical support to Electronics Maintenance Technicians, NWSCC Crew Technicians and LCMM/Engineers.
  • Documents and maintain files as related to the work management system, work plans, field/incident reports, data analysis, etc.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on communications & electronics equipment at the Short-Range Development site (SRD).
  • Analyzes equipment failures to determine cause and recommends corrective action.
  • Keeps performance and maintenance records on equipment.
  • Respond to NWSO or 22 Wing on requests for clarification on the status of NWS operations and maintenance activities.
  • Assists in effecting design changes to improve equipment efficiency and/or reduce cost of operation.
  • Reviews and provides feedback to the Sustainment Services department on minor modifications, projects, and preventive maintenance task reviews.
  • Develops course training standards according to SOW requirements and updates in equipment/systems.
  • Determines course content according to objectives.
  • Prepares training material (presentations, worksheets).
  • Executes training sessions, webinars, workshops etc. in groups or individually.
  • The EMT/Trainer can also be deployed to NWS sites to backfill as an Electronics Maintenance Technician or assist Operations and Engineering with system investigation/ inspections, preventive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Responds to emergency situations (unexpected failures)
  • Conducts environmental, safety, security and quality checks and audits, general housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment and takes proactive and corrective measures in these areas.
  • Performs other duties/projects as assigned, to support the overall program and mission, and other initiatives of Nasittuq

  • This position provides guidance, mentoring and team leadership to Electronics Maintenance Technicians, NWSCC Crew Technicians and LCMM/Engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION:   

  • Completion of postsecondary program focusing on electronics, electro-mechanical technology, electrical engineering technology, electrical technologist or related discipline or CF military equivalent.

 

CERTIFICATE(S) / LICENSE(S):  

  • Standard First Aid trained with CPR Level A (with valid certificate) or be eligible to obtain one.
  • A valid class ‘G’ driver’s license, or provincial/territorial equivalent.
  • Must already hold a Level II (Secret) Clearance or be eligible to obtain one.  


EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years of experience on the job training working with telecommunications/electronic systems.   

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

 

  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications, RF, satellite, and IP network systems, with ability to read and interpret related drawings and manuals.
  • Proficiency in the use of commercial test equipment and tools used in troubleshooting and repair of electronic systems. 

 

COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

 

  • Proven communication, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Maximo.
  • Customer service and detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
