About this position

 

Duties will include:

*Inspect heavy equipment

*Diagnose problems, often using computerized tools

*Use various complex hand and power tools to repair and service equipment

*Test equipment that has been repaired and make adjustments 

*Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work

*Disassemble and reassemble equipment

*Consult equipment operating manuals and blueprints

*Travel to worksites to repair heavy equipment

*Maintain equipment repair logs

*Report damaged or faulty equipment to management

*Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and well-organized work area

*Consult with other mechanics on smaller jobs

*Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions and at times in austere locations 

*Available to work long hours and respond to afterhours call outs

Required skills:

*Accurately read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings and plans.

*Meticulous use of automotive and heavy equipment test and measurement instruments including calipers, gauges, micrometers and computer based diagnostic test sets.

*Verifiable experience and extensive knowledge working on Caterpillar, John Deere, Kenworth, Mack, Peterbilt and Volvo equipment and trucks

*Focused attention to detail and accuracy

*Excellent communication and active listening skills

*Physical stamina, dexterity and color vision

*Time management and organizational skills

*The ability to work in a fast-paced environment

 *Proactive and initiative driven work ethic 

*Honest, punctual, and reliable 

Required Qualifications:

*High School diploma or equivalent

*Certification as a diesel-heavy equipment mechanic

*Proven and demonstrable work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic

*Understanding of computer testing technologies

*Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

*Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
