About this position

Our client, a leading Am Law 100 global law firm, is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Analyst, Competitive Intelligence to support its business development and research initiatives.

This is a strategic role focused on delivering actionable intelligence on clients, prospects, competitors, and lateral hires to key stakeholders across the firm.

Salary range: $70,000 to $87,000 a year

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting in-depth research and analysis in a legal or professional services environment. This individual will play a critical role in supporting pitches, proposals, lateral recruitment, and market strategy initiatives through timely, accurate, and insightful intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on clients, prospects, industries, and competitors using tools such as Lexis, Capital IQ, PitchBook, Mergermarket, Lex Machina, and D&B Hoovers.

  • Deliver actionable litigation and business intelligence to support BD initiatives, pitches, and RFPs.

  • Prepare detailed biographical and company background reports for use in lateral hiring and client meetings.

  • Analyze court dockets and legal filings to identify trends and provide insights for strategic positioning.

  • Support lateral hiring strategy by providing deep-dive intelligence on potential hires and competing firms.

  • Maintain internal tracking systems and metrics for competitive intelligence (CI) activities.

  • Evaluate, test, and recommend new research tools and platforms.

  • Provide training and guidance on research resources to BD and marketing teams.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, including Marketing, HR, and Practice Groups.

  • Handle additional projects and occasional overtime as required.

Required Skills & Proficiencies

  • Strong research and analytical skills with deep proficiency in business and legal intelligence platforms.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with a focus on clarity and relevance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to distill complex data into clear, executive-level summaries.

  • Exceptionally organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Collaborative, proactive, and service-oriented approach.

  • Foundational understanding of legal operations, BD strategy, and law firm culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (preferred in Business, Law, Library Science, or a related discipline).

  • 1+ years of experience in competitive intelligence within a law firm or professional services setting.

  • 3+ years of experience in business development, market research, or related roles in legal/professional services.

  • Prior experience supporting lateral hiring and/or litigation research strongly preferred.
