Underground Construction Crew Leader

Position Summary
The Underground Utility Crew Leader is responsible for leading their crew to ensure efficiency and quality work relating to installation or repairs of storm drain systems, freshwater systems, sewer systems and private natural gas lines.
Essential Duties
- Lead and coordinate daily activity of the Underground Utility Laborers safely to execute job responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures (OSHA and company standards).
- Performs a wide variety of skilled and sometimes complex related maintenance activities for the purpose of ensuring that issues are resolved, and projects are completed in a safe, effective and timely manner
- Partner with Underground Utility Team Lead to resolve problems or to coordinate activities
- Operates various pieces of equipment to include excavators, skid steers, telehandlers, fork trucks, lifts, and dump trucks
- Dig identified areas using hand tools such as, but not limited to, shovels, probes, spades, post hole diggers
- Train and mentor crew members
- Clean or prepare sites/areas to eliminate possible hazards
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of experience in excavation, utility installation, or related field.
- 1+ year in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
- Strong understanding of underground utility locating and safe digging practices.
- Proficient in reading construction plans and utility markings.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and safety procedures.
- Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, team members, and leadership.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training preferred.
- Intermediate PC skills and ability to navigate programs used by the Company for training and/or communication purposes.
- Class A CDL required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date
Physical Demands
- This position is regularly required to have the ability to use hands to feel objects and use tools and controls. The position also needs to be able to raise and lower objects without mechanical aid and to extend hands and arms in any direction to reach, push or pull objects; to bend at the knees and at the waist; and to talk and hear.
- Position requires frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
- The employee must have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., frequently lift and/or move 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds with another individual.
- Position must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs. Must be able to safely mount and dismount equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including hats, gloves, and safety vests
