The Design Associate is responsible for supporting the Design team throughout new and existing projects with areas of emphasis: architecture, interiors, furniture, small construction projects, signage, maintenance of existing design, assisting in design development, visual aids, design decks, floor plans and anything that is style and creatively related which enhances the personality and image of the properties.
Principle Responsibilities:
This position supports the planning, coordination, and execution of creative and design projects from concept through delivery. This role works closely with designers, cross-functional partners, and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about design operations and team collaboration.Knowledge and ability to read construction document sets, reading floor plans, distinguishing scale, and understanding spacial relationships of structures and FF&E and creating floorplans.Develop and maintain project timelines, schedules, and documentation.Track project milestones, deliverables, and dependencies.Ensure assets and approvals are delivered on time to meet launch deadlines.Support status meetings and provide clear project updates.Work closely with Department Heads and Design to collaboratively ensure all spaces meet specified standards and all public areas are “in show” status at all times. Collaborate with Housekeeping, Engineering, Events and Food & Beverage Teams to ensure consistent interior design standards are met and all rooms, displays, floor layouts, structures, signage, and any event setups are up to visual standards. Ability to thrive in a very fast paced environment and commit to project needs/expectations on an individual basis – adapting, accepting and applying immediate changes. Problem solving in situations without an easy answer; troubleshooting issues before they happen. Manage FF&E Installations: Receiving, requisitioning, scheduling and installing. With a special understanding of vintage furniture. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, project and time management, task prioritization, providing detailed status reporting, budget management, invoice management, project reconciliation, issue resolution, and client support. Scheduling, follow up, and oversight of outside vendor projects in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner.
Required skills and Qualifications:
3-5 years within hospitality2-4 years of previous interior design, architectural and or project management experience needed. Degree in a design or art field required Proficient in Design Spec, PM softewre, Adobe Creative Suites, Microsoft Office, CAD, Sketchup (and/or comparable programs such as Vectorworks, Rhino/3D software) Experience working with tools/crafting and proper woodshop etiquette Ability to effectively communicate creative concepts, invention and ideas with staff and management. Highly organized, extreme attention to detail while multi-tasking Fluency in English both verbally and written; excellent communication skills Ability to work alone or with a team while having a positive attitude
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time. Adjust to change in hours and days on a ‘weekly work week’ based on projects and openingsAbility to lift 20 lbs and easily maneuver around a 19 story property
