The Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting successful project execution from planning through close-out. You’ll partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects stay on schedule, on budget, and aligned with Horizon’s quality standards. Requirements:

 Construction Management

  • Assist with project requirements, specifications, and schedule coordination.
  • Support development and approval of construction drawings and permitting processes.
  • Assist with bid solicitation, document preparation, and contractual coordination.
  • Monitor project schedules and support quality inspections.
  • Participate in project start-up, subcontractor, and progress meetings.
  • Assist with budget tracking, cost reviews, forecasts, invoices, purchase orders, and change orders.

Field Operations

  • Support site quality audits to verify workmanship and material standards.
  • Assist with punch list creation and execution.
  • Help support safety planning, communication, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to identify and resolve deficiencies or hazards.

Project Coordination

  • Maintain accurate, updated project plans and specifications.
  • Track warranties, punch list progress, O&M documentation, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Prepare project reports, meeting minutes, agendas, and logs within project management software.
  • Support contract processing and administrative tasks.
  • Special Projects (as assigned)

Bid Coordination & Estimating:

  • Support bid document development, subcontractor outreach, bid-day coordination, and database maintenance.
  • Perform takeoffs, estimate support, bid analysis, and subcontractor coordination.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in construction project engineering or a related role preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, codes, safety standards, and project controls.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage tasks while working collaboratively with a team.
  • Proficiency with construction software (Procore, Primavera, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to read/interpret construction documents and perform accurate calculations.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights/weekends (typical 50–60 hours during peak periods).
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and meet standard physical demands of office and site environments.
