General Job Description:
Under the Direct supervision of the Transit Manager, the Transit Driver is responsible for operating buses in a safe an efficient manner. In addition, the driver is responsible for providing for the safety and well-being of the passengers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide safe and efficient transportation, operate bus on scheduled route, pick up passengers on dispatched requests.
· Assure vehicle is operational by performing pre-trip inspection at beginning of each shift and reporting any mechanical problems or damage as they occur. Fueling vehicle at end of each shift. Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior of vehicle, which includes, but is not limited to; cleaning out all trash, sweeping and mopping, cleaning rear windows and entry door windows as needed at the end of each shift.
· Load and unload passengers using wheel-chairs, using mechanical lift. Secure wheelchairs using approved tie-down procedure. Assist passengers as needed to board and disembark.
· Observe all traffic laws and follow transit policies and procedures.
· Promptly notify dispatcher of any field problems, such as, accidents, breakdowns, delays, and passenger issues. Report all accidents or incidents immediately to dispatch.
· Keep accurate documentation of pick up and drop off times and mileage, reconciliation of receipts with manifest.
· Responsible for proper care of vehicle. Reporting of accidents, theft or damage immediately to dispatch.
· Notify transit office of needed maintenance.
· Communicate accurately and professionally with passengers and other employees. Provide excellent customer service, by being courteous and professional at all times.
Requirements:Qualifications and Skills:
· Must have a valid driver license and a good, clean, driving record.
· Employees will be subject to Pre-Employment drug screening and random drug screening for drug and alcohol as required by FTA regulations.
· Knowledge of computers, cell phone, two-way radio, and wheelchair left.
· Ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 pounds) if required
· Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Flexibility in working hours. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK EVERY OTHER WEEKEND
Note: Previous experience as a driver is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Non CDL drivers start out at $17.00 an hour.
CDL drivers start out at $19.00 an hour.
