Position Overview
Supervises Youth Care Specialists on assigned shifts, ensuring secure operations, staff adherence to policy, and high-quality daily care. Supports therapeutic and safety objectives and models trauma-informed leadership within a secure residential program serving youth ages 10–17 adjudicated as Children in Need of Services (CINS). The program operates in compliance with Chapter 984.226, Florida Statutes, Florida Network standards, and COA accreditation, balancing safety, therapeutic care, and staff development to deliver stabilization, healing, and reintegration services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of youth behavior, crisis intervention, and secure-care supervision.
- Ability to direct, coach, and evaluate direct-care staff.
- Understanding of documentation standards, incident response, and shift accountability.
- Strong organizational, de-escalation, and communication skills.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily milieu management, youth routines, and behavioral interventions.
- Supervise and schedule Youth Care Specialists to ensure required staffing ratios and consistent coverage.
- Conduct shift briefings, incident reviews, and ensure timely, accurate documentation in logs and NetMIS.
- Maintain security of all controlled doors, keys, and cameras; ensure completion and compliance with safety drills.
- Support implementation of treatment plans, recreation, and life-skills groups in alignment with program goals.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance documentation for staff, including on-the-job training and supervision.
- Monitor and supervise youth to ensure high-quality care, safety, and adherence to policies, procedures, and program standards.
- Review all staff and client documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with licensure and agency requirements.
- Assist the Program Manager with administrative duties, including scheduling, coverage coordination, and operational follow-up.
- Provide leadership presence on assigned shifts, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and trauma-informed practices.
- Respond to client crises and emergencies in accordance with established safety and incident-response protocols.
- Ensure ongoing supervision and staff development consistent with licensure and program standards requirements.
- Report facility and safety concerns promptly to the Program Manager.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in social work, or related area of study from a college or university and at least two (2) years of experience in working with children, or two (2) years of college and four (4) years of experience in working with children and one year of supervisory experience.
Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability
Basic and/or advanced computational skills may be necessary.
Physical Demands
This is a position which requires walking, interacting, monitoring and engaging youth in various positive activities and diffusing challenging situations that will occur. Little to moderate lifting of less than 25 lbs. may be required.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
