POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Chef Manager
Department: Culinary
Reports to: Culinary Services Director
Position Description
Acts as the direct assistant and back-up to the Culinary Services Director. Also fills in for and/or assists the cook to ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly.
Essential Functions
- Assists and supports the Culinary Services Director.
- Assists in selecting and training culinary services staff.
- Assists with the planning of menus and meals.
- Oversees the preparation and service of food.
- Offers guidance on the preparation, cooking and presentation of different foods served.
- Assists the Culinary Services Director in the enforcement of health and safety standard in the kitchen.
- Handles any problems that may arise in the kitchen.
- Helps in ensuring residents are served efficiently and effectively.
- Supervises and manages Culinary Services staff members.
- Performs all tasks relating to Culinary Services including food preparation, production, cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, pots, pans, etc.
- Maintain required records for substitutes, food temperatures and cooler temperatures.
- Relate to residents, families and other staff in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
- Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
- Assume responsibility of supervisor when the Culinary Services Director is not present
- Perform simple arithmetic and units of measurement conversions used in food preparation.

- Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
- Observe all infection control policies.
- Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
- Follow and assume accountabilities for all policies and procedures contained in the Staff Handbook.
- Plan work in an efficient manner and demonstrate dependability.
- Support campus wide activities by offering ideas, participating on committees and attending staff and resident events.
- Function as an active member of the team, supporting fellow team members and working effectively with other individuals and teams.

- Perform all other related duties as directed by your supervisor and/or manager.
Qualifications
- Experience supervising culinary staff in a long-term care or assisted living facility.
- Good organizational and management skills
- Works well under pressure
- Superior oral and written communication skills. Understands and communicates job-related information and directions in English
- Good attention to detail plus the ability to quickly identify and resolve problems
- Must love and enjoy working with food
- High level of personal hygiene
- Experienced as a cook in health care desirable, preferably long-term care.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Education
- A degree or diploma in restaurant management and/or completion of food service sanitation course or in-services desirable.
Salary Information
$22.0 - $24.0
Hourly Wage
