Position Title: Inside Sales Associate

Reports to: General Manager

Classification: Hourly

Department: Sales


The successful candidate will be that person who can build a relationship with a customer. The more knowledge the candidate has of the construction industry and related products, the faster success will come in this role. Whether in person, on the sales floor or over the phone, the ability to determine the customer’s needs and meet them quickly is essential. Most importantly, in order to drive repeat business and gain new business, the candidate must be able to learn the customer; their needs, their expectations, and their interests.      


Purpose of Position: This position will work with customers to find what they want, create solutions and ensure a smooth sales process. Assist walk-in customers, answer telephone inquiries, provide general housekeeping, and maintain displays in the store.


 Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation). 

  • Provide the highest level of service to all customers; main objective is servicing retail customers.
  • Provide displays, brochures, and other point-of-sale information to customer when requested.
  • Explaining and demonstrating features of products and services.
  • Staying informed about competing products and services.
  • Use company computer system to invoice customers.
  • Performs cash drawer start-up and close-out procedures following company outlined procedures.
  • Accurately completes all paperwork for sales, special orders, and requests in a timely manner.
  • Provides pleasant and prompt customer service.
  • Provides customers with information on additional items related to purchases made, use suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the products sold, product usage, product prices, and new products
  • Monitor merchandise movement and advise management of fast/slow moving item.
  • Ensures appropriate amount of merchandise for assigned areas is ordered.
  • Special order non-stock items to fill customer needs.
  • Handles minor complaints with the objective of solving the problem within company approved guidelines.
  • Stock and display merchandise to greatest advantage.
  • Maintain accurate bin tags and signage.
  • Accepts returned merchandise by verifying documentation and merchandise.
  • Processes refunds, credits, and exchanges using company policy.
  • Helps to maintain a clean store environment
  • Prepares store and product displays for advertised events and promotions.
  • Assist supervisor or other employees as needed.
  • Attends staff, departmental meetings, and safety and health training, as required, on time.
  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy.
  • Observes and practices all safety procedures and policies.
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies procedures (e.g., safety glasses, earplugs, face shields, etc.) to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to wear all applicable PPE properly.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull, maximum lift 25-50 lbs.
  • Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively.
  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination.
  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead.
  • Must regularly be able to sit, squat, bend, twist, and stand.
  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally.


Experience and Education Requirements:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. One year experience operating in retail sales or the construction industry. Must pass a background check and Non-DOT drug test.


Physical Demands 

  • Ability to stand for up to four hours at a time 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  •  Reach over head to grasp objects 
  • Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis 
  • Manual dexterity 


Working Conditions 

  • Work inside in controlled temperature 
  • Work with small store equipment
