TAQA is pushing the boundaries of downhole drilling technology, and we need brilliant minds to help shape the future. As a Principal Electronics Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of developing and enhancing TAQA’s Rotary Steerable System (RSS) tool, a cutting-edge system that improves drilling efficiency and precision along with other innovative downhole drilling tools and electronics. With access to a state-of-the-art lab, manufacturing, and testing facility on-site, you’ll have the tools and resources to design, test, and iterate at an accelerated pace.
This role isn’t just about writing code or designing circuits—it’s about driving innovation, collaborating across disciplines, and delivering high-performance embedded systems that thrive in extreme downhole environments. In addition to having your own team reporting to you, you’ll work alongside mechanical and testing engineers to push the limits of what’s possible in drilling technology.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Define requirements, functional specifications, and testing documentation for engineering embedded applications of varying scope and complexity.
- Ensure adherence to the Technical Firmware and Hardware development processes throughout the project lifecycle, working with others to continually improve these processes.
- Design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document engineering embedded applications.
- Develop project plans, functional specifications, and schedules, either as part of a project team or as a leader of a defined section of a major project.
- Assist in determining product needs and enhancements, contributing to the strategic direction of product development.
- Deliver innovative and commercially successful solutions, contributing to TAQA’s Intellectual Property portfolio.
- Create impactful relationships with customers, community, and vendors by proactively collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Participate in professional societies relevant to your area of specialization, staying current with industry trends and advancements.
- Communicate clearly and efficiently with team members to provide innovative solutions and ensure successful project outcomes.
Education / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Relevant fields include Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics and other Engineering domains. Master’s and PhD degrees accepted.
- 5+ years relevant work experience required
Skills & Competencies:
- Experience designing embedded firmware in C or C++ required
- Experience designing , simulating, and testing analog and digital circuits.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, selecting and using appropriate debugging tools
- Capability of assessing embedded design on physical system (power, timing, etc.)
- Experience with serial communication protocols (UART, RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN).
- Proficient in the use of development and lab equipment such as JTAG, Logic Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Soldering station, etc.
- Extensive experience in electronics technology, particularly in the development and support of embedded systems.
- Proficiency with ARM processors.
- Experience using circuit simulation tools.
- Experience designing multi-layer mixed signal circuit boards.
