Description:

Verland is now accepting applications for an Adaptive Equipment Specialist.  The Adapted Equipment Specialist meets the specific needs of the individuals by assuring that  all necessary equipment is adapted and available to each individual to promote their wellbeing  and independence. 


Shift Available:

7:30am -4pm: Monday - Friday 


Contributions:

  • Adapts and repairs special equipment, wheelchairs, furniture, and electronic equipment.
  • Meets with necessary departments to determine special needs for individuals.
  • Builds special equipment according to recommendations.
  • Receives work requests for building, repairing, sewing, or adjusting adapted equipment  and completes the requests.
  • Monitors adapted equipment for individuals’ comfort and safety.
  • With the assistance of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing identifies  the needs and then designs, cuts, and prepares the work necessary to sew and/or  fabricate Naugahyde, canvas, and other such materials to facilitate the completion of  adaptive equipment needs.
  • Develops, creates, sews, and manufactures straps and harnesses as required.
  • Provides back-up for the Maintenance Department as needed.
  • Must be available on call when needed.
  • Performs related duties as requested.
  • May access only the minimum information that is necessary to perform the job and will comply with Verland’s privacy practices.

Requirements:

 

  • Minimum requirements include metal, wood, mechanical, and light welding skills.
  • The ability to repair some electronic and electrical equipment and appliances is required.
  • Knowledge of and the ability and skills to operate power shop equipment such as table saw, drill press, sewing machine, band saw, and power hand tools.
  • The ability to communicate with necessary departments, make sketches, and build  equipment as per basic plans.
  •  Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and have clearances as required by Act 33 and Act 34

  Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Ability to conceptualize spatial definitions to take ideas and construct required  equipment.
  • Must be able to understand and express concepts of adapted equipment to  management and employees.
  • Trade or vocational school graduate with some practical experience in the trades or  served an apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training required.
