About this position
Position Summary
The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing tooling used in a Tier 1 automotive stamping and assembly environment. This role supports high-volume production through hands-on work with progressive, blank, and transfer dies, ensuring tooling reliability, product quality, and production uptime.
Die Maintenance, Repair & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain progressive, blank, and transfer dies
- Disassemble dies, inspect components, weld, repair, grind, and fit details
- Diagnose tooling-related quality, scrap, and downtime issues
- Perform in-press troubleshooting including alignment, timing, and sharpening
Machining & Tooling Work
- Machine, grind, and fit punches and die details
- Apply knowledge of tooling, machining, and die functions
- Work with various tool steels, coatings, and materials
Pressroom Support
- Support die setup, pilot releases, timing, and feed adjustments
- Work directly in the pressroom to minimize downtime
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams
Safety, Quality & Housekeeping
- Comply with company policies and OSHA requirements
- Follow lockout/tagout and die handling procedures
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and diagrams
- Experience with complex progressive and transfer dies
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Education & Experience
Completion of a technical school program or four-year Tool & Die apprenticeship preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Frequent standing, bending, and use of hands. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to noise, oil, compounds, and moving mechanical parts.
Salary Information
$21.0 - $37.62
