Role Overview
The YMCA is seeking an energetic, passionate, and dependable Water Aerobics Instructor to lead engaging, safe, and effective aquatic fitness classes. This role is responsible for creating a welcoming and motivating environment that supports participants of all fitness levels in achieving their health and wellness goals.
The ideal candidate brings strong group fitness leadership skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to inspire confidence, build relationships, and foster a positive community atmosphere aligned with the YMCA’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Program Instruction & Member Engagement
- Lead safe, engaging, and effective water aerobics classes for participants of varying fitness levels
- Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide clear, supportive instruction
- Modify exercises as needed to ensure accessibility, safety, and participant success
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging class environment
Participant Support & Wellness Promotion
- Monitor participant progress and provide encouragement and constructive feedback
- Build positive relationships with members and promote ongoing program participation
- Support member wellness goals by promoting healthy lifestyle habits
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Follow all YMCA safety protocols, emergency procedures, and aquatic guidelines
- Maintain active supervision and ensure participant safety at all times
- Adhere to YMCA abuse prevention, professional boundaries, and mandated reporting policies
- Report accidents, incidents, and safety concerns promptly
Operational Support
- Prepare equipment and class space prior to instruction
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe aquatic fitness environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18 years preferred
- Current group fitness certification, water aerobics certification, or ability to obtain upon hire
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within required timeframe
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate and engage participants in a group setting
- Commitment to YMCA mission, safety standards, and member wellbeing
