The Lead Assistant supports the oral surgeon and Practice Manager by optimizing daily clinical workflow, maintaining schedule efficiency, and providing leadership to the assisting team. This role balances hands-on clinical excellence with team coordination and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule Optimization & Doctor Support
- Actively monitor the daily schedule to ensure procedures remain on time.
- Anticipate delays and proactively adjust room flow, staffing, or setup to minimize schedule disruptions.
- Support the doctor by ensuring rooms, instruments, and patients are prepared in advance.
- Communicate real-time updates to the team to keep cases moving efficiently.
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Provide day-to-day leadership for 3–4 clinical team members.
- Assign assistants to operatories and procedures based on skill level and case needs.
- Support team members throughout the day to maintain productivity and quality of care.
- Model professionalism, punctuality, dress code compliance, and teamwork.
- Address minor workflow issues and escalate concerns to the Practice Manager when necessary.
Ordering & Inventory Support
- Assist with monitoring inventory levels for surgical supplies, instruments, and disposables.
- Communicate ordering needs to management and assist with placing orders as directed.
- Help ensure critical supplies are available to prevent delays in patient care.
Clinical Excellence
- Provide chairside assistance during oral surgery procedures as needed.
- Ensure operatories are properly set up and broken down according to protocol.
- Maintain infection control, OSHA, and safety standards at all times.
Technology & Systems
- Utilize DSN Cloud to support clinical operations, including schedule visibility, documentation awareness, and workflow coordination.
- Maintain familiarity with system updates and assist team members with basic DSN Cloud navigation as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous oral surgery assisting experience required.
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to support a small clinical team.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to anticipate needs and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with DSN Cloud or similar oral surgery software preferred.
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (WEDNESDAYS OFF)
