Midwest Co-op is currently accepting resumes for the position of Operator - 1. Under the supervision of the Agronomy Location Manager, the Operator – 1 supports day‑to‑day operations by assisting with driving, equipment operation, product handling, and general facility duties. This entry level role is ideal for someone with a G or DZ license who is beginning to build skills in equipment operation, warehouse work, and customer service.
You will learn on the job, work closely with experienced staff, and contribute to safe and efficient branch operations.
SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP
- May assist with the orientation or training of seasonal drivers and operators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
VEHICLE, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY OPERATION
- Operates single‑axle or light‑tandem straight trucks following company procedures and safety requirements where license class allows.
- Operates dry fertilizer spinners and basic sprayers under direction and according to established safety and application protocols.
- Conducts daily pre‑trip and pre‑operation inspections including fluid levels, tires, brakes, lights, booms, nozzles/spinners, and safety equipment.
- Maintains clean, safe equipment and facilities and reports mechanical issues promptly.
- Practices safe, defensive driving in varying road, weather, and field conditions.
PRODUCT HANDLING, MIXING & APPLICATION
- Assists with loading and unloading fertilizer, feed, crop inputs, hardware, and energy products.
- Helps mix and prepare fertilizer and crop protection products using proper safety procedures.
- Supports field application activities under direct supervision.
- Assists with weighing tanks, product staging, and basic quality checks.
WAREHOUSE, YARD & INVENTORY SUPPORT
- Moves and stores products safely within the warehouse and yard.
- Helps check and verify incoming products for accuracy or damage.
- Assists with inventory counts and inter‑branch product movement.
- Performs general yard and facility tasks such as housekeeping, snow removal, mowing, and grounds upkeep.
DOCUMENTATION & COMPLIANCE
- Completes all required documentation including bills of lading, transfer documents, weigh slips, field logs, application records, invoices, and daily trip logs.
- Ensures all licenses, inspection papers, permits, and regulatory documents are current and available in the vehicle or equipment.
- Complies with all regulatory requirements including MTO, TDG, WHMIS, environmental regulations, and company safety policies.
CUSTOMER SERVICE & BRANCH SUPPORT
- Provides friendly, professional service at customer sites.
- Supports warehouse operations, fertilizer plant activities, and assists other divisions during busy seasons.
- Works respectfully and cooperatively with team members.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Follow all health and safety requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including using required protective equipment, following safety procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
- Follow all company personnel policies, including expectations related to training, performance, and conduct.
- Participate in required MCS training such as Ministry of Labour courses, Health & Safety Standards, Policies, and AODA accessibility training.
- Work cooperatively with approved contractors and follow all related safety procedures when contractors are on site.
- Maintain any required licenses, certifications, or regulatory requirements needed for your role.
- Perform other assigned duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
- Class G or DZ driver’s license.
- Must be at least 25 years of age and have a minimum of 3 years experience with class of driver’s license required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications such as forklift, WHMIS, and TDG.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Customer service focus and willingness to learn new processes.
- Ability to lift materials within company and regulatory limits.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily works outdoors, in yards, fields, warehouses, or vehicle settings in all weather conditions.
- Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, fertilizers, chemicals, agricultural odours, and equipment noise.
- Exposure to varied road, field, and weather conditions; loading and mixing may occur outdoors.
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 kg.
- Occasional extended hours may be required during seasonal peak periods.
