JOB SUMMARY: 

The Mental Health Intern provides comprehensive mental health services, diagnostic assessments, and treatment services to individuals. An ideal candidate for this role will be able to serve clients at both of our Hibbing and Virginia, MN locations with some flexibility to work remote.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

The Mental Health Intern is responsible for providing mental health services with an emphasis on diagnostic assessments but not limited to individuals with co-occurring disorders in conjunction with mental health protocol, integrating ongoing services with substance use disorder treatment professionals, and facilitating mental health groups as needed.

  • Expertise or educational exposure in assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic services.

  • Excellent individual counseling and documentation skills.
  • Ability to practice competently and ethically under licensed supervision.
  • Maintain clinical records in compliance with PIR policies and regulatory standards.
  • Task oriented and capable of meeting weekly minimum caseload requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Human Services (DHS) and clinical board requirements and documentation.
  • Understanding surrounding the importance of upholding documentation standards. 
  • Independent worker and self-starter.
  • Ability to work independently and as a positive member of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Complete and document all Diagnostic Assessments, Individual Treatment Plans, therapy progress notes, case reviews, and discharge summaries per agency policy and MN Department of Human Services requirements.
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients and staff related to mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Ensure the content and format of client records be uniform and entries in each case are signed and dated by a licensed mental health professional.
  • Actively participate in all required clinical supervision requirements.
  • Provide individual therapy services.
  • Facilitate Mental Health groups.
  • Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with client referral, family members, and any relevant professionals, including psychiatry, medical doctor, school system, social services agencies, probation, etc.
  • Conduct professional evaluations, making decisions and recommendations for treatment planning and implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program from an accredited university in behavioral-health science or related field.
  • Knowledge of clinical mental health diagnosis and psychotherapy treatment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of implications of parts 9530.6405 to 9530.6505, 9543.1000 to 9543.1060, and Minnesota Statutes, chapter 245A, and sections 626.556, 626.557, and 626.5572.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of implications of MN Statures 245.462 and 256B.0757. Rules 9505.0370 through 3505.371, subp.5, item D. MN statutes 256B.0625, subd. 20, 245.461 to 245.468, 245.487 to 245.4887, and Minnesota Rules 9505.0322, and 9520.0900 to 9520.0926. Minnesota Statutes 256B.0943and 256B.0623. 256B.02, subdivision 7, paragraphs (b) and (c) and the MN MHCP provider manual for mental health services.
  • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Background Study clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge of Procentive software.
  • Strong computer literacy skills.
  • Experience working with typically under-represented populations and co-occurring conditions.

CONTINUED EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  • Complete continuing education courses in current treatment concepts and methods as required by the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) and/or State Licensing Boards.
  • Attend in-house training and staff meetings.
  • Stay current regarding professional research, techniques, theories, and ethics.
