About this position
Position Summary:
· Assists the dental staff in the provision of services, as defined by the scope of practice, procurement and maintenance of supplies and equipment, sterilization of equipment and other duties as assigned by the Dental Director or Dentist on duty.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates expertise and knowledge in performing assigned duties as a chair side assistant during dental procedures. Utilizes accepted fourhanded dental techniques.
Utilizes safe and acceptable techniques in performing radiographic procedures. Consistently complies with safety standards for Dental Radiography.
Coordinates communication with dental labs to include pick up and delivery of dental lab work. Accurately records dental lab transactions in the log book.
Performs all dental sterilization techniques in accordance with acceptable standards of practice to include OSHA standards for blood borne pathogens.
Accurately performs weekly biological spore testing on autoclaves and records in log book. Ensures that monthly monitoring by the external biological lab is completed.
Adheres to DFCC Dental Assistant Daily workflow duties as well as additional assignments as directed by Dentist or Administrative staff.
Maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment to include timely ordering, distribution and stocking of supplies in treatment rooms.
Responsible for promptly updating the dental maintenance log book. Follows agency policy on reporting damaged equipment.
Demonstrates initiative in assisting other health providers in the provision of care.
Demonstrates the ability to identify, set priorities, and assist with the flow of the patients within the dental department.
Maintains the integrity of the medical record in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Maintains universal precautions in the provision of care and performance of duties.
Requirements:High school diploma and dental assistant training required.· Certification for Dental Assistant from an approved program with NY State licensure is preferred.· Must be able to read and write English.· Bi-lingual Spanish skills preferred.· Must be computer literate, strong data entry skills with knowledge of patient electronic medical records.· Experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred.· Ability to work independently and part of a team; prioritize tasks. Must have the ability to interface with participants/patients as well as all levels of staff. · Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial and ethnic backgrounds.· Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.· Excellent customer service skills; empathy and compassion to give support to patients.
