Position Title: Charge Nurse – pain management
Location: Eugene Jewett, MD, Surgery Center
Reports To: Director of Nursing

Position Summary: The pain management charge nurse is responsible for coordinating all activities related to the pain management schedule within the pain area to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient flow of patients. This position plays a vital communication and coordination role between the surgical, anesthesia, nursing, and administrative teams to support high-quality patient care and operational efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Develops a deep understanding of operational and clinical workflows for Pain Management areas to support efficient scheduling.
- Coordinates patient flow in Pain management in accordance with the minor procedure area schedule, identifying and addressing delays proactively.
- Leads daily safety huddles.
- Maintain clinical proficiency, including in the Pain Management nurse role, to support team activities as needed.
- Applies sound fiscal judgment and resource utilization.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation of team members.
- Uphold excellent customer service standards and foster a positive team culture.
- Serves as a point of contact and communication among clinics, physicians, Materials Management, and other ancillary departments.
- Supports real-time problem solving and escalating issues to the Director of Nursing.
- Collaborates with clinical staff to align staffing with patient acuity and case complexity.
- Ensures proper communication of add-on and cancelled cases to all relevant departments, and confirms required preparations are made.
- Orients and supports new clinical team members in Pain Management processes, ensuring understanding of workflows and communication standards.
- Promotes a culture of safety by ensuring incident reports are completed in response to unexpected events or near misses.
- Maintains a constant awareness of the Pain Management census to support continuous case flow in each department.
- Maintains compliance with all Surgery Center protocols, quality standards, and documentation requirements.
- Manage HR responsibilities, including coaching, and corrective actions.

- Demonstrates understanding of age-specific patient needs and integrates them into workflow and care coordination.
- Maintains professional, courteous communication with patients, families, and all team members.
- Acts as a resource during all shifts, especially during peak times, ensuring continuity and clarity in operations.
- Remains informed of and compliant with all regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance according to Surgery Center policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current RN license in the State of Florida (or compact license as applicable).
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; Advanced Life Support (e.g., ACLS); Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Proficient in use of electronic health records (EHR) and surgery scheduling systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail and follow-through.
