Job Summary

The STS Fleet Operator Assistant is responsible for supporting Fleet Operators (CDL and Non-CDL) in ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods. This role involves assisting with loading and unloading freight, securing cargo, conducting vehicle inspections, and providing logistical support to drivers. The Fleet Operator Assistant plays a critical role in maintaining smooth transportation operations by ensuring compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and delivery schedules.

This position requires strong attention to detail, physical endurance, and the ability to work collaboratively with drivers, warehouse personnel, and customers. Fleet Operator Assistants must be adaptable to diverse work environments, including warehouses, loading docks, and various driving conditions, while upholding the company's commitment to excellence and safety.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Fleet Operators in loading and unloading freight, ensuring proper handling and securement to prevent damage.
  • Verify shipment documentation, ensuring accuracy between manifests, labels, and cargo details.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicles and report any maintenance concerns to management.
  • Ensure proper organization and staging of cargo for transport, optimizing space utilization within trucks and vans.
  • Provide assistance with navigation, route planning, and traffic management as needed.
  • Maintain and organize transport-related documentation, including delivery confirmations, trip logs, and compliance paperwork.
  • Follow all company policies and federal, state, and local regulations related to safe vehicle operation and freight handling.
  • Promptly report any accidents, vehicle malfunctions, or irregularities encountered during transport.
  • Maintain professional interactions with clients, coworkers, and third parties to uphold the company’s reputation.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure cargo is securely transported in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in maintaining the safe and legal operation of company vehicles.
  • Support drivers in completing all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Represent STS Recycling, LLC professionally through responsible assistance and customer service.

Qualifications & Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Preferably 18 years of age or older (exceptions may apply based on experience).
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math for inventory tracking, log maintenance, and documentation.
  • Strong oral communication skills for clear interaction with dispatch, drivers, and customers.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions via phone, in person, or written trip packets.
  • Basic knowledge of DOT regulations and safety protocols.
  • Pass all required drug and alcohol screenings, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion tests.
  • Successfully complete training on cargo handling, vehicle inspections, and safety procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull freight up to 50 lbs., with occasional loads reaching up to 75 lbs.
  • Enter and exit vehicles frequently, requiring bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, and balancing.
  • Operate manual handling equipment such as pallet jacks or dollies as needed.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions, including outdoor exposure to weather elements.

Work Environment

  • Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor environments, including warehouses, loading docks, and transport vehicles.
  • Work schedules may include early morning, late evening, weekend, and occasional overtime shifts.
  • Driving conditions may involve high-traffic areas, inclement weather, and road hazards.
  • Exposure to elevated noise and vibration levels inside transport vehicles.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support company operations.
