Job Title: Purchasing Intern

Reports to: Purchasing Manager / Procurement Manager

Position Status: Internship (Part-Time or Full-Time, Temporary)

 

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Purchasing Intern supports the Procurement and Supply Chain team by assisting with daily buying activities, data entry and validation, data clean-up initiatives, and special purchasing projects. This position provides hands-on experience in procurement operations, supplier coordination, ERP systems, and cross-functional collaboration within a manufacturing environment.

The intern will gain exposure to cost control strategies, supplier performance tracking, ERP data integrity, and continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact operational efficiency and organizational performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist buyers in creating and processing purchase orders (POs) within the ERP system.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, order confirmations, and shipment updates.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and follow up on overdue items to support on-time delivery.
  • Track and document cost savings initiatives and supplier performance metrics.
  • Review and correct outdated or duplicate supplier records.
  • Support inventory data clean-up efforts, including unit-of-measure verification and pricing validation.
  • Prepare basic reports related to open Pos and spend analysis.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects such as supplier onboarding, process documentation, and workflow improvements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by documenting current purchasing processes and recommending efficiencies.

  • Ability to interpret purchasing data and identify discrepancies.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in handling confidential supplier and pricing information.
  • Ability to analyze information, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and detail.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, supplier quotes, contracts, and business correspondence.
  • Ability to write professional emails and internal communications.
  • Effective verbal communication skills to interact with suppliers and internal departments.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (basic formulas, sorting, filtering, data entry).

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

  • Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Oracle) preferred.
