Based on attendance/punctuality, coverage participation, and quality checklist.

Last-Minute Coverage Premium

$50 per shift

Applies when accepting a coverage assignment with <24 hours notice (excluding manager-approved emergencies).

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) Float supports Internal Medicine and OB/GYN providers across True Health NY sites. This role covers planned PTO, unplanned call-outs, and high-volume clinic days while ensuring consistent patient flow, accurate documentation, and an excellent patient experience. The Float MA is expected to adapt quickly to different site layouts, provider preferences, and schedules while following True Health standard workflows.

Key Responsibilities

A. Patient Rooming and Clinical Support (All Sites)

  • Prepare exam rooms, sanitize/turn over rooms between patients, and maintain supply levels.
  • Bring patients back, verify identity, and confirm reason for visit.
  • Obtain and document vitals; recognize and escalate abnormal findings to clinical leadership/provider.
  • Medication reconciliation, allergy verification, and preferred pharmacy confirmation.
  • Assist providers during exams/procedures as needed (within MA scope and training).
  • Provide patient instructions per provider direction and ensure clear after-visit next steps.

B. Internal Medicine Support

  • Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) per policy (e.g., urine dip, rapid tests) and document results accurately.
  • Perform EKG set-up/capture when trained and assigned.
  • Collect and process specimens per labeling and chain-of-custody standards; coordinate lab pickup workflows.
  • Support immunization/injection workflows as permitted by standing orders and site policy (if applicable).

C. OB/GYN Support

  • Set up OB/GYN exam rooms (speculums, pap supplies, swabs, kits) and ensure chaperone readiness.
  • Assist with pelvic exams and specimen collection workflows (pap, swabs) and ensure correct labeling and routing.
  • Support procedures by preparing equipment/supplies and assisting with room readiness (e.g., IUD/Nexplanon set-up per policy).
  • Support pregnancy visit workflows (intake steps, urine dip/POCT as applicable, patient instruction packets).

D. Documentation and EHR Tasks

  • Document vitals, POCT results, intake information, and other assigned elements in the EHR.
  • Scan/index outside records, consents, and forms accurately and route to the correct queues.
  • Support provider/staff task queues as assigned (results routing, follow-up tasks, referrals tracking).

E. Float Coverage Expectations

  • Travel to assigned sites across Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island; arrive ready to support clinic flow immediately.
  • Maintain consistent True Health standards while adapting to site-specific workflows and provider preferences.
  • Communicate clearly with site leadership regarding priorities, procedure schedules, and any operational risks.

Standard Daily Workflow (Step-by-Step)

  • Clock in and join site huddle (5–10 minutes): review provider schedules, procedures, staffing gaps, and priorities.
  • Room readiness check: supplies, labels, POCT inventory, chaperone needs, and equipment functionality.
  • Room patients: verify identity, collect chief complaint, take and document vitals, reconcile meds/allergies, and prepare patient for provider.
  • Assist during visit: chaperone as needed; support procedures; collect specimens and document POCT results per protocol.
  • After-visit: provide instructions per provider direction; label and route specimens; coordinate lab pickup; schedule next steps if assigned.
  • Between patients: maintain task queue, scan/index documents, restock rooms, and keep turnover consistent.
  • End-of-day closeout: reconcile specimens and pending labs, restock key supplies, close tasks, and provide handoff notes to site leadership.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant (Internal Medicine and/or OB/GYN preferred).
  • Ability and willingness to travel between Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island locations.
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, and comfort working in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred

  • CMA/RMA/NCMA certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy, EKG, and/or OB/GYN procedure support experience preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities preferred based on patient population needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing/walking for most of the shift; frequent bending and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use PPE and follow infection control requirements.
