Your Opportunity

As a Tax Technician you will be a vital member of the Tax Team, reporting to the Tax partners. The individual will work collaboratively with all members within the departments in preparing Notice to Reader, Personal Tax Returns (T1’s) and other accounting work required for the firm and its clients. You are a detail-oriented, curious individual who can quickly learn and work with minimal supervision.

Your Scope:

  • Reporting to the Partners and Managers within the Tax Group, the Technician will be responsible to complete personal tax returns (T1’s), terminal returns (T1’s), Trust returns (T3’s), possibly some corporate returns (T2’s) and other corporate work such as capital dividend account elections.
  • Corresponding directly with clients and their advisors (e.g. lawyers) covering general tax issues.
  • Reviewing tax and GST assessments from CRA, and completing general tax research, basic accounting projects, and bookkeeping.
  • Participating in weekly tax update meetings, and assisting with other various firm / client projects that may be required.
  • For the farm clientele, preparing various returns for farm programs as well as personal farm tax returns, which would include developing a general knowledge of the farming industry.

Your Qualifications:

  • Accounting diploma from a recognized post-secondary institute
  • Previous related tax experience would be an asset
  • Experience working in public practice would be an asset
  • Knowledge and experience working in accounting software such as CaseWare, Tax Prep, QuickBooks, and Simply Accounting
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, capable of multitasking various tasks, projects, and strategic improvement initiatives
