Description:
The Commercial HVAC Technician is a senior-level field technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This technician works independently on complex systems and ensures all work complies with safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and local codes.
Requirements:- Diagnose and repair commercial HVAC systems including:
- Rooftop Units (RTUs)
- Chillers
- Boilers
- Cooling Towers
- Make-Up Air Units
- VAV Systems
- Performpre ventative maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment
- Install and retrofit HVAC systems and components
- Troubleshoot electrical systems including high and low voltage controls
- Diagnose compressors, motors, refrigerant circuits, and mechanical components
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Perform equipment startups and verify proper system operation
- Handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA regulations
- Complete detailed service reports and maintain accurate documentation
- Communicate repair recommendations and estimates to customers
- Mentor and assist junior technicians as needed
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Required)
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of commercial HVAC controls and building automation systems
- Strong communication and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman HVAC License (if required by state/local regulations)
- Experience servicing chillers and large tonnage equipment
- Manufacturer certifications preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to work on rooftops, ladders, and in confined mechanical rooms
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and climb for extended periods
- Comfortable working in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
- Commercial field service environment
- On-call rotation may be required
- Occasional overtime and emergency service calls
