About the Role:

Flighthouse Engineering is seeking an experienced accounting and finance professional to join our team as a Financial Controller.  Flighthouse is a medium sized professional engineering services business that provides aeronautical and mechanical engineering to companies developing innovative and/or novel products in the aviation sector.  We are looking for candidates with experience in similar scale businesses who enjoy a diverse, hands-on, role in a small company environment.  The primary responsibilities for this position include financial analysis, financial reporting, budgeting, finance processes & controls, accounting, and general day to day financial operations.  The individual in this role will be critical in ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the development of financial strategies that support the organization’s growth and stability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Lead accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Lead semi-annual budgeting & forecasting process
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports to senior management.
  • Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to senior management, including scenario modelling, efficiency measures, and variance against budget.
  • Use financial software to track and manage financial data - including creation and maintenance of KPI metrics and dashboards.
  • Maintain accurate accounting of all records and ledgers.
  • Develop and document internal controls, policies, and financial regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and financial regulations.
  • Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
  • Process accounts payable/receivable and payroll as needed.
  • Implement and improve financial systems, processes, and controls.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Strong experience in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel.

Key Outputs:

  • Monthly close + requisite journal entries
  • Monthly Financial Reports; performance against budget, monthly variance analysis, KPI metrics, etc
  • Weekly cash flow report with 12-week forecast
  • Bi-Annual Budget
  • Support the monthly billing process by ensuring all expenses are accurately entered into the financial software system.
