About this position
SUMMARY
The Mechanical Design Engineer works under the supervision of the Director of Engineering and is responsible for supporting engineering design, documentation, and product execution activities for Platinum and its customers. This role assists in the development, refinement, and sustainment of Platinum’s product offerings, ensuring designs are accurate, manufacturable, compliant with applicable codes and standards, and aligned with project requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support design, production, and testing efforts for Platinum’s technical product offerings.
- Assist with product line sustainment activities, including revisions, updates, and engineering change documentation.
- Support the development and maintenance of complete drawing and documentation packages in accordance with the company’s quality management system.
- Partner with Production and Quality Assurance to help ensure builds meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams through project phases to support timely and accurate project execution.
- Review customer specifications, operational requirements, and applicable standards to assist in determining product design requirements.
- Participate in internal and customer project meetings as needed to provide technical input and updates.
- Support procurement and vendor coordination to help ensure sourced components meet project requirements.
- Assist Engineering and Field Service teams in resolving operational issues and incorporating design improvements.
- Support Engineering and Sales in gathering technical information for customer quote packages.
- Assist in creating and maintaining fabrication drawing packages, P&IDs, BOMs, ECNs, installation manuals, control narratives, and related documentation.
- Review drawings for adherence to customer specifications and company standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to design efficiency, documentation quality, and manufacturing support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of fabrication drawing packages, P&IDs, electrical drawings, BOM management, and revision control processes.
- Working knowledge of gas compression systems, piping design, instrumentation and control, and fabrication practices.
- Experience working within a structured quality management system (ISO 9001, API Q1, etc.).
- Proficiency in Autodesk design software (Inventor/AutoCAD preferred).
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong mathematical aptitude.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Mechanical Engineering degree or related field.
- 3+ years of engineering design experience in oil & gas, compression, piping, or fabrication.
- Preferred experience: natural gas compression, vapor recovery systems, vessel and piping fabrication.
- PE license (preferred, not required).
Salary Information
$120000.0 - $145000.0
