Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate all shop manual machine tools to perform progressive machining operations on a diversified line of close tolerance work, requiring a high degree of skill and machining techniques.
  • Diagnose and rectify tooling problems or machine issues.
  • Operates within a variety of standard work, having close tolerances and finish requirements.
  • May set up machines for operation by others.
  • Work is subject to process and final inspection.
  • Work completed from drawings, specifications, and job layouts.
  • Maintain or exceed the approved rate of production.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance record, and acceptable overall work record.
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions per established processes.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Attention to 5S along with preventative maintenance on equipment in assigned work center.
  • Complete tasks as directed by Operations Supervisor with minimum supervision. 
  • Perform other related duties as deemed necessary by the Operations Supervisor
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in continuous improvement activities and training document development.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to set up and operate all manual machines, to include boring bars, boring mills, large milling and turning machines, grinders, special purpose machines, while adhering to quality and production standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform prescribed inspections and adhere to quality and drawing specification.
  • Ability to work independently, exhibit the ability to solve problems without assistance and demonstrate effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must have proven mechanical, clerical, and mathematical abilities necessary for safe equipment operation and accurate recording of data.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to standardized safety policies and operating practices.

 

Training Requirements:

  • General Safety
  • ISO 9001
  • Applicable Process Instructions and SOP’s.

 

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety glasses 
  • Steel toe shoes
  • May require other PPE, such as gloves, goggles, shields, aprons, etc, while performing specific tasks 

 

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work performed in a non-air-conditioned shop environment.
  • Exposure to shop environment such as noise, dust, odors, and fumes.
  • May work at different workstations as production needs require.
  • Standing entire shift.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Bending and stooping throughout shift.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, such as hoist, positioners, pallet jacks, etc.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull materials and equipment to complete assigned tasks.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  1. Demonstrated skill and ability to set up, adjust and operate all shop manual machine tools with little or no supervision, while adhering to tight quality and production standards.
  2. Demonstrated ability to set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, etc.
  3. Demonstrated ability to select the proper speeds and feeds, determine operation sequences and tooling arrangements.
  4. Demonstrated ability adhere to quality standards and perform prescribed inspections using a variety of precision measurement gages and testing equipment.
  5. Experience and knowledge of basic mechanical principles, testing procedures, basic hydraulics. 
  6. High School Diploma or GED, with above average mechanical ability.
  7. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow processes, procedures, and policies.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with coworkers, supervision, and management.
  9. Must be able to meet physical demands, with or without accommodation
