About this position

Job Summary: Primary responsibility is to facilitate the communications functions of the business office and provide clerical support.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes the Hospice’s philosophy and mission by presenting a positive image to patients and families, physicians and community agencies. Uses effective customer service skills when directing calls and assisting others.
  • Provides clerical support which may include but not be limited to, assisting with referral intake and benefit verification, preparation of admission, orientation and new hire packets, monitoring and ordering office supplies and forms, special projects, filing and copying.
  • Facilitates the communications system which may include mail distribution, phone system, memo’s, answering incoming calls, documenting and disseminating appropriate messages.
  • Competently demonstrates understanding and the ability to handle multi-line phone systems and features. 
  • Assists with maintenance of personnel files.
  • Provides computer support and data entry. 
  • Provide effective communication to patients and family, team members, and other health care professionals and maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Works in a routine office environment. Noise level may be moderately high. The ability to work a flexible schedule and extended hours. The ability to travel locally with some exposure to inclement weather. Possible exposure to toxic materials, toner, etc.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate (college preferred). 
  • Experience: One year general office experience.
  • Skills: Excellent computer skills required, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Excellent phone skills. 
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation.


Physical and Mental Effort:

Prolonged sitting and standing required. Occasional need to lift, pull, care and push items weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent need to stoop, kneel and reach while accessing files. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and staff and patient needs. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Required problem solving skills.
