About the Role:

Performs diagnostic tests and scanning procedures utilizing ultrasound systems to assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.  Performs duties of Sonographer as it relates specifically to providing Obstetric-related procedures; explains procedures and special requirements to patient; adjusts equipment and evaluates images.

M-F day shift, part time benefit eligible.  Must be available to work starting at 8 am to work 3 or 4 eight hours days.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtains and relays information related to procedure performed.
  • Checks previous ultrasound studies for comparison and additional history.
  • Confirms patient preparation.
  • Presents images and concise history to the perinatologist.
  • Confers with perinatologist about tentative diagnosis and observed radiological scan.
  • Produce legible and comprehensive preliminary report(s) to the perinatologist
  • Ensures that an adequate clinical history is available to correlate with the ultrasound examination to be performed; consult with others as necessary to obtain a complete clinical history.
  • Performs obstetrical ultrasounds varying in degrees of complexity (level 1 to level 3); provides ultrasound guidance of invasive procedures.
  • Performs biophysical and amniotic fluid index and provides technical oversight to other ultrasound staff performing this service.
  • Performs fetal echocardiography, Nuchal Translucency, Chorionic Villous Sampling and Amnio Procedures.
  • Technically manipulates, equipment to obtain appropriate quality and quantity of image to convey clinical condition.
  • Practices preventive maintenance procedures and reports all needed repairs to manager/lead ultrasound tech.
  • Educates patients about exams, adjusting to patient/staff needs.
  • Thoroughly explains procedure to be performed in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Works primarily with adult women patients; always adjusts and modifies care appropriate to the age and condition of the patient. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Program listed on the CAAHEP website.
  • Licensure/Certification: RDMS in OB/GYN required, American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR
  • Experience: Two years Sonographer experience preferred
