POSTION OVERVIEW:
The Medical Assistant will be responsible for a range of administrative/clerical and a variety of clinical tasks at the medical clinic located at Casa Promesa.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
- Maintains medical supplies inventory and performs preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
- Must conduct patient care by conducting swabbing for COVID-19, Influenza, or other viruses/bacteria for patients and staff as directed by the Medical Director or Assistant Vice President.
- Must take and record vital signs for all patients as directed by the Medical Director.
- Must organize Lab Requisitions and organize pickup and delivery to the lab from the facility for DOH compliance.
- Must ensure the lab and clinic are clean and clear of clutter. Must maintain the highest of infection control standards.
- Preparing the examination rooms for patient assessment, clinical procedures and assistant practitioners with patient care.
- Monitoring and documenting patient’s signs and symptoms for clinicians review during clinical evaluation.
- Must organize and restock the PPE Stations in the Clinic and in the Lobby every day.
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary.
- Saves doctors’ time by helping with office procedures which may include filing, preparing documents, filling the copier/scanner with paper, emailing on behalf of Medical Director, confirming insurance, preauthorization, etc.
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; and keeping patient information confidential.
- Counsels’ patients by transmitting physician’s orders and questions about any treatment plans.
- Schedules appointments by making arrangements with the Medical office/Center; verifying times with patients; and preparing charts and pre-admission and consent forms.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
- Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Other duties assigned by Medical Director or Assistant Vice President.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess active certification as a Medical Assistant (approved certification body).
- 0-3
- Current CPR (BLS)/AED
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English Preferred.
- Must be proficient in MS WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT
- Must be proficient with Email Systems and Electronic Health Records
- Must be detail oriented and organized.
- Must be able to lift, move, push, and pull up to 30 lbs.
- Must be trained in Resident Rights, Substance Abuse, Elder/Patient Abuse, and Advanced Directives within 90 days of training.
