UNIT SUMMARY: The Children’s Diagnostic Center (CDC) unit is a fast-paced environment, where nurses are an active participant in pediatric patients’ experience.  Nurses in the CDC provide care for a diverse population of patients ranging in age from infants to teenagers and have experience dealing with different forms of procedures and multiple surgical specialties. In the unit, nurses perform pre-anesthesia screening to include comprehensive review of patient history and day of surgery preoperative preparation. CDC nurses also support patient care and anesthesia intraoperatively and continue their care into the post-anesthesia recovery phase until discharge. The nurses provide any necessary educational resources to patients and their family members and facilitate communication with anesthesia and surgical teams. It is imperative that staff members can think critically, have strong assessment, intervention and communication skills. In the CDC, teamwork and exceptional customer service are essential in achieving successful patient outcomes.

REQUIREMENTS: Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field. Associate's degree in Nursing (AA) or Diploma in Nursing. At least 1 – 3 years of Childrens RN experience required. RNs with Peds ER or Peds Surgery experience are highly preferred. Maryland Registered Nurse License, American Heart Association BLS Certification, PALS required.
