Position Overview:
Arizona Kidney Disease and Hypertension Centers (AKDHC) (www.akdhc.com) is a leading physician-owned nephrology practice serving patients across Arizona. With more than 100 nephrologists, 19 advanced practice providers, and 4 ambulatory surgery centers, AKDHC delivers comprehensive kidney care across the full continuum.
AKDHC is seeking an accomplished Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for a complex, multi-site specialty organization. This role requires a seasoned healthcare executive with deep experience in large private medical practices and a sophisticated understanding of nephrology-adjacent business models, including value-based care, dialysis partnerships, ancillary service development, and real estate strategy.
Reporting to and partnering closely with the physician Board of Directors, the CEO will lead enterprise strategy, drive sustainable growth, and strengthen clinical and financial performance in an increasingly complex reimbursement and regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Strategy & Growth
Develop and execute a long-term enterprise strategy focused on nephrology-specific growth opportunities, including dialysis partnerships, CKD care models, population health, and value-based kidney care initiativesEvaluate and implement alternative payment models, risk-bearing arrangements, and other value-based care strategiesIdentify and pursue opportunities for geographic expansion, practice affiliations, and physician recruitment aligned with market demandLead the evaluation and development of ancillary and integrated services, including vascular access, clinical research, care coordination, and home dialysis supportFinancial & Operational Leadership
Provide executive-level financial oversight across complex nephrology revenue streams, payer mixes, and reimbursement modelsDrive performance improvement in revenue cycle management, cost structure, and physician compensation methodologiesEnsure operational excellence across clinical support functions, compliance, quality reporting, and regulatory requirementsOversee and optimize strategic relationships with dialysis providers, hospitals, health systems, and payersPhysician Partnership & Governance
Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the physician Board of Directors, supporting effective governance and long-term planningBalance physician autonomy and clinical priorities with strong business discipline in a physician-led private practice modelLead, develop, and hold accountable the executive and administrative leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration
Required Qualifications
Senior executive leadership experience in a large, physician-owned medical practice strongly preferredProven leadership within a medical group of 50+ physicians; specialty practice experience highly desirableDemonstrated expertise in nephrology practice management, dialysis economics, or closely related specialty care modelsTrack record of success in strategic planning, financial management, and execution of growth initiativesStrong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analytics in a multi-site healthcare environmentExperience working effectively with physician boards and navigating complex governance structuresMaster’s degree required; MBA, MHA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred
