About this position
TRAK TECOM designs, builds, and delivers advanced RF electronic solutions and antenna systems for mission-critical performance across the aerospace and defense industry.
Our RF microwave and antenna solutions support Electronic Warfare (EW), Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Radar, Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), Telemetry, Tracking, Command & Datalink, and Communications helping customers achieve reliability, resilience, and high performance in the harshest operating environments.
Job Purpose:
This position directly contributes to the Mechanical Design and Engineering of RF/microwave assemblies for applications such as multi-function RF systems, antennas, positioners, and control devices. It offers hands-on experience in both design and manufacturing processes within a collaborative, vertically integrated facility. The candidate will interact with manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and internal teams to support the development of these products and related apparatus. U.S. citizenship required. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a government security clearance.
Requirements:Responsibilities:
- Apply core mechanical engineering principles—thermal, structural, and materials—to support product design and optimization.
- Perform detailed thermal and structural analyses on components, assemblies, and fixtures to ensure performance and reliability.
- Design mechanical systems using electromechanical components (e.g., motors, gears, connectors, PCBs, cables) with focus on function and integration.
- Select and evaluate materials for thermal, mechanical, and environmental suitability in military and aerospace applications.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design to Cost (DTC) strategies to ensure efficient, cost-effective designs.
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings in SOLIDWORKS®; update legacy documents in AutoCAD® as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design issues using input from engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and customers.
- Develop knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements for materials, product performance, and testing.
- Create and maintain parts, BOMs, and documents within a document control system.
- Take initiative to grow technical knowledge, improve workflows, and support continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams across design, electrical, and manufacturing disciplines.
- Stay informed of project scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to align design activities accordingly.
- Follow company safety, environmental, and export control policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering and team objectives.
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to define problems, analyze data, draw conclusions, and propose effective solutions.
- Ability to develop or contribute to specifications, test procedures, and documentation for mechanical assemblies, circuit cards, and test fixtures.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks®; familiarity with other CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD 2D/3D) and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5, GD&T).
- Working knowledge of mechanical design elements including tolerancing, fasteners, thermal components, and materials (e.g., composites, castings).
- Solid foundation in core design principles including structural integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability.
- Experience with and understanding of FEA tools and basic thermal/structural simulation techniques and the theory behind them.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and additive manufacturing.
- Comfortable using hand tools, mechanical assembly techniques, and test equipment during prototyping or validation.
- Experience with document control systems for managing BOMs, drawings, and revisions.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
Experience:
- Three years’ minimum of applicable design or engineering experience is preferred.
- Experience in electronics packaging would be a plus.
- Experience in military, aviation, or aerospace design or manufacturing industry would be a plus.
- Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment would be a plus.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a similar engineering degree is required.
Security: U.S. citizenship required. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a government security clearance.
