Position Summary
The Junior Diesel Mechanic will work directly with and under the supervision of the Lead Diesel Mechanic. This position is designed to provide hands-on training and skill development in diesel equipment repair and maintenance. The Junior Diesel Mechanic will assist with repairs, diagnostics, and equipment servicing while learning proper safety procedures and mechanical techniques.
Responsibilities
- Assist in repairing fishing vessel, purse boat, bobcat, forklift, and engines.
- Support the Lead Mechanic in diagnosing mechanical issues and replacing machinery.
- Help operate equipment during repairs under supervision.
- Operate a sit-down forklift to move parts and equipment (as trained and authorized).
- Assist with lifting and moving engines, motors, and parts using overhead lifts, pulleys, dollies, cranes, jacks, and forklifts.
- Help replace machinery in purse boats.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including working in confined or awkward positions and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
- Report all hazards, accidents, injuries, or environmental concerns immediately to a supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the maintenance team.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; trade school enrollment or completion preferred.
- 1-2 year of mechanical experience preferred (diesel experience not required but a plus).
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and rotating shifts as needed.
- Ability to perform physical labor in various working conditions.
