About this position
We are seeking a Psychiatric Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in a behavioral health setting. This role supports psychiatric providers through clinical triage, medication administration, documentation, and care coordination, ensuring safe, consistent, and trauma-informed care.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care and clinical support to behavioral health patients with psychiatric diagnoses, SUD, and OUD
- Perform nursing assessments including vital signs, behavioral observations, mental status indicators, and withdrawal assessments (CIWA, COWS)
- Administer psychiatric and MAT medications as prescribed and within scope of practice
- Complete and interpret the Brief Addiction Monitor Scale (BAMS) and other behavioral health screening tools as required
- Monitor patients for relapse risk, medication adherence, side effects, psychiatric decompensation, and safety concerns
- Support MAT induction, stabilization, and maintenance phases
- Observe, document, and report patient condition and response to treatment to licensed providers
- Collect, document, and process blood, urine, and other specimens as ordered
- Prepare behavioral health patients for examination and assist providers during visits and procedures
- Maintain timely patient flow within the behavioral health clinic
- Assist with referrals, laboratory coordination, diagnostics, and follow-up care
- Formulate and update patient care plans in collaboration with licensed providers
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the EMR
- Maintain documentation supporting UDS, HEDIS, and behavioral health care gap measures
- Participate in CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and MAT-related compliance activities
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, emergency kits, oxygen supplies, and medication storage areas
- Monitor and maintain medical supplies and medication inventory
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and follow behavioral health safety protocols when patients present with emotional distress or crisis
- Participate in required trainings, meetings, and quality improvement activities
- Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient clinic operations
Education/Experience:
- Licensure: Current, active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Florida
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Experience: Behavioral health, psychiatric, SUD, or MAT experience preferred
