About this position
Summary/Objective:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is a challenging roll that requires the ability to work independently and demonstrate creativity in problem solving in a highly demanding environment. Key areas of focus are managing daily manning requirements (local 500 workers), foremen dispatch, managing CN rail car movements and providing operational support to the Superintendents and Management team. Provides exceptional customer service to a wide variety of internal and external customers/stakeholders. Contributes a high level of operations administrative support.
Essential Responsibilities:
Foreman Dispatch
- Dispatching SQT foreman to the appropriate jobs both dock/ship 1630 Monday through 0800 Saturday
- Adhering to the agreed upon dispatch rules as it applies to 514
- Securing foreman via the “Pool” when SQT is unable fill positions with own foremen
- Ensuring SQT foreman are offered “Pool Jobs” when one work is available via the terminal
- Accurate tracking of “Refusals and dispatch of “Double Shifts”
- Develop an understanding of the 514 Collective Agreement as it relates/applies to the dispatch of foremen
Longshore RWF Dispatch and BCMEA Labour Ordering
- Ensure all RWF are dispatched according to their rotation
- Ensure accurate tracking of book offs and replacements
- Accurate ordering of all warehouse and ship labour (by rating) as directed by the on-duty superintendent for all shifts (0100/0800/1630) Monday 1630 through Saturday 0800
- Ensure all orders are placed before the order cut off times as specified by the Longshore CA
- Ensure appropriate “Warnings” are attached to orders when required (ie. Fall-arrests, dirty job, heavy lifting etc.)
- Contacting BCMEA for 1630 manning
- Writing up 1630 manning sheets
- Future planning (gathering the next day's truck numbers, rail car numbers, misc. jobs/work orders, creating the 0800 manning sheets
CN Rail Car Management
- Task is performed with direct input from the on-shift superintendent
- Daily review of CN’s rail car reporting (Robo-fax and other sources)
- CN’s “Daily Service Summary” identifying no. of cars to be spotted and released
- Providing CN specific order in instruction (which cars to which warehouse 1/2/3)
- Reporting on the daily pipeline number
- Tracking/recording of car movements, idle days, bunching (Information is used to dispute demurrage charges)
- Daily communication with CN (SQT CSR and other necessary contacts)
Mics Tasks and Data Entry
- G2O “TMS” entry
- Taxi management “Ensure accurate capture of ship vs. dock requirement for cabs, ties into invoicing
- Recording of Lines calls
- Data capture to feed dashboards
- Proper filing and report keeping (uniform approach/standardization)
- Customer Contract entry into LCT
- Roles and tasks will continue to expand with the position
Qualifications
- Possesses relevant post-secondary education and/or experience working in the logistics/distribution/safety field in a heavy industry setting.
- Previous customer service, inventory management/control, reporting
- Demonstrates strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Maintains a solution driven mindset and possesses critical thinking skills.
- Highly organized with time management and organizational skills.
- Strong technical skills (Office 365, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to input and retrieve data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively read, estimate, calculate, interpret, measure and document writing.
- Demonstrated ability to have sound judgement, be able to think critically and solve problems.
- Ability to work effectively with a union workforce.
- Ability to work in a challenging environment, under pressure and in a high paced environment.
