Role Summary:

The Buyer II is responsible for independently managing procurement activities to support production schedules, inventory targets, and strategic sourcing initiatives. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, maintaining cost-effective procurement practices, and ensuring materials and services are delivered on time and in full. The Buyer II collaborates cross-functionally with planning, quality, operations, and finance teams to support operational and business objectives.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute purchasing activities for assigned commodities, categories, or suppliers.
  • Evaluate MRP requirements and generate purchase orders in accordance with demand forecasts, lead times, and safety stock levels.
  • Review and analyze supplier quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and manage supplier relationships to ensure high service levels and cost competitiveness.
  • Monitor and track supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness; initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Resolve issues related to PO discrepancies, invoice variances, and receiving or quality problems in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, lead time reductions, or process improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support new product introductions (NPIs), engineering changes, or sourcing transitions.
  • Maintain accurate records in ERP/MRP systems, including pricing, delivery schedules, and contract terms.
  • Support compliance with company policies, SOX controls, and procurement best practices.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience: 2–5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or technical environment.

Skills & Competencies:

    • Solid knowledge of procurement practices, inventory control, and supplier management.
    • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
    • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Office tools; experience with supply chain analytics tools is a plus.

Other Requirements:

Primarily office-based with some exposure to warehouse or manufacturing areas.

May involve occasional travel to supplier locations or other company sites.
