Photon Brothers is seeking an experienced Director of Sales to lead and grow our residential solar and battery sales operations in California and Colorado. This leader will be responsible for managing and developing a team of approximately nine sales representatives while also contributing directly to sales performance.


The Director of Sales will play a key role in scaling Photon Brothers’ revenue and helping the company achieve its aggressive growth goals. This is a player-coach role requiring both leadership and personal sales production.

This position will collaborate closely with marketing, operations, and executive leadership to drive consistent growth, improve conversion rates, and build a high-performing sales culture while maintaining strong standards of sales compliance and customer transparency.

Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of ~9 residential solar and battery sales representatives across California and Colorado
  • Conduct regular pipeline reviews, deal strategy sessions, and performance coaching
  • Establish clear sales expectations, accountability standards, and professional development plans
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new sales team members as the organization grows

Sales Education & Mentorship

  • Train and mentor the sales team on solar financing options, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), in-house loan products, and other financing structures
  • Ensure all sales representatives have a strong working understanding of financing mechanics, contract structures, and customer obligations
  • Educate the team on state-specific solar regulations, consumer protection requirements, and disclosure standards, particularly in California and Colorado
  • Conduct regular training sessions and deal reviews to ensure accurate representation of financing products and system performance
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for complex financing scenarios or regulatory questions

Sales Compliance & Consumer Protection

  • Promote and enforce ethical and compliant sales practices across all sales activities
  • Ensure the sales team properly communicates contract terms, system expectations, financing structures, and customer obligations
  • Maintain awareness of evolving state regulations, consumer protection laws, and solar industry guidelines
  • Implement processes to ensure accurate documentation, customer disclosures, and transparent sales presentations
  • Partner with leadership and operations to proactively address any compliance risks or customer concerns

Revenue Growth

  • Drive revenue growth aligned with company goals by improving close rates, pipeline health, and team productivity
  • Set and monitor sales targets, ensuring consistent pipeline generation and deal flow
  • Identify opportunities to expand battery attachment rates and overall system value

Player-Coach Selling

  • Maintain an active personal pipeline and close residential solar and battery sales
  • Demonstrate best practices in consultation, proposal development, and closing techniques
  • Support team members on complex deals and high-value opportunities

Sales Operations & Process Improvement

  • Monitor and improve sales KPIs including close rate, cycle time, and average system value
  • Ensure CRM discipline and accurate pipeline reporting
  • Work with marketing to improve lead quality and conversion rates
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure strong project handoffs and customer experience

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with operations, permitting, and installation teams to ensure efficient project execution
  • Provide market feedback from customers to leadership and marketing teams
  • Help develop sales strategies for new products such as batteries and related services

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of solar sales experience, with residential solar strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of sales leadership or team management experience required
  • Strong understanding of solar financing structures including PPAs, loans, and ownership models
  • Experience selling solar + battery systems required
  • Ability to train and mentor sales teams on financing products, regulatory requirements, and compliant sales practices
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets in a competitive market
  • Strong coaching and leadership abilities
  • Ability to manage a team across multiple markets (California and Colorado)
  • Excellent communication, forecasting, and pipeline management skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-growing company environment

This role pays commission plus override, with expected OTE to be between $200k-$300k.
