General Description

The Medical Assistant I provides clinical and administrative support in Behavioral Health services. This role ensures smooth patient flow, accurate data collection, and high-quality care delivery. Medical Assistants contribute to a positive patient experience by assisting providers with examinations, procedures, and clinical tasks while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Room patients, obtain vitals, collect medical histories, and prepare them for provider visits
 • Assist providers during exams and procedures across departments
 • Accurately document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
 • Clean and disinfect exam rooms and manage room inventory
 • Process instruments, including use of autoclave
 • Collect, label, and prepare lab specimens for testing
 • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and care teams
 • Assist with scheduling, referrals, and patient inquiries when needed
 • Collaborate with clinical leads and peers to improve workflows and meet performance goals
 • Support quality improvement, compliance activities, and community engagement
 • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA
 • Perform additional duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong customer service and communication skills
 • Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and maintain accuracy
 • Basic knowledge of clinical procedures and medical terminology
 • Ability to build rapport with patients of diverse backgrounds
 • Comfort working across multiple service lines
 • Proficiency in or willingness to learn EHR systems (Epic preferred)
 • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
 • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program, EMT, or Paramedic program
 • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
 • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience; 3 years preferred
 • Experience with pediatrics and adult patients strongly preferred
 • Ability to obtain and maintain Epic certification
 • Ability to travel between Premier sites as needed

Bonus / Preferred Skills:
 • Experience with vaccine administration or lab draws
 • Familiarity with multiple disciplines (Family Medicine, Behavioral Health, OB/Women’s Health)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 20 lbs. regularly and up to 30–50 lbs. occasionally
 • Sit for extended periods and frequent use of computer systems
 • Travel between clinic locations as needed
 • Exposure to communicable diseases and clinical environments
